This study was developed using the character Cascão, created by Mauricio de Sousa, reinterpreted through a visual language closer to my own illustration style.
The main goal of this piece was to explore atmosphere building through light, shadow, texture, and color choices, understanding how these elements can strengthen storytelling and emotion beyond the character’s facial expression itself.
Throughout the process, I developed the scene in different stages, moving from the initial sketch to the base colors, lighting construction, and final atmospheric refinement.
The emotional intention behind the illustration was to convey discomfort, vulnerability, and surprise. Even with a relatively simple expression, elements such as the rain, lighting direction, and temperature contrast help communicate the character’s situation within the scene.
